A wonderful parade of close to a million people along the Lakeshore. The parade takes place on the Saturday of the first weekend of August. Monday is an official holiday. The parade lasts all day. The people are setting up the floats most or all of the night. One year I saw it start about 8 AM and the last float went by at least 12 hours later. On the Monday there are events on Toronto Island: bands, food, etc. Along the route of the parade on the Saturday there are food and other types of vendors so you won’t go hungry but if you can bicycle to the event, all the better. The transit system gets pretty busy getting all those people out of that area at the end of the day. Or be prepared to wait. Take water and something to keep the sun off as it can get pretty warm. If you are taking pictures bring a camera with a good zoom lens - you can’t always get as close as you would like and a long lens solves that. The masks in the top row of photos were about three feet tall - each!
